The Gardener's Helper

Our Mater Maker Film comes in two different sizes, a 12 foot by 12 foot and a 24 foot by 12 foot sheet.  These sizes are for individual gardeners, or small scale commercial operations.  This film is heavy duty 3 mil with a tensile strength around 4,000 PSI.  Tough Stuff Guys!

Just lay this film right on top of your grass (tilling is fine too) and plant your tomatoes or peppers!  We have created a great gardener's helper!

12 foot by 12 foot "Urban Mater Maker Film" Videos

The two videos above give a detailed description on how to use the no till Mater Maker Film in a urban environment.  I talk about the methodology, economics, and the results of using this film last year.  The video on the left gives details on how to till your ground after using the mater maker without a tiller!  Great exercise, and get those kiddos out to help you.  GROW YOUR OWN ORGANIC FOOD!  AWESOME!

24 Foot by 12 foot mater maker film videos

The two videos above give detailed information around our larger size Mater Maker Film.  You can hear about our nearly 350 pounds, 1000 count tomato yields, and the disease barrier properties on the right side video.  We got some great data for you guys from last years garden.  Check out our time lapse.  We don't hide anything.  Grow 'em big and tall!

MATER MAKER FILM AS A BARRIER TO DISEASE

Mater Maker's Disease Barrier Properties

Notice the size difference of the plants early on.  The warmth of the black film is very beneficial to tomatoes and peppers.  The tomato plants in the images are growing right next to each other in the same plot.  It really is unbelievable how the disease is taking hold of the tomatoes with bare soil so early on in the growing season.  This really destroys the yields in early fall when you want those tomatoes!  The Mater Maker can really help!

12 FOOT BY 12 FOOT MATER MAKER YIELDS

2017 Yields from 12 foot by 12 foot Mater Maker Film

The above chart will tell you about the yields we got off our Mater Maker Film we put on top of the yard.  We only had 6 tomato plants-3 Better Boys and 3 Early Girls.  One of the Early Girls died due to nematodes.  The date is at the bottom of the chart and pounds on the left.  We watered these plants with our garden hose once a week.  We also planted 6 Jalepeno plants with nearly 40 pounds or 646 Jalepenos!  At the end of the season we had a weed free area for our broccoli and lettuce!  Also, ready to go for the spring!  Weedfree!

2017 Yields from 24 Foot by 12 Foot Mater Maker Film

This chart is a little more interesting.  There were some challenging events at this location due to a major flood during the growing season.  The Mater Maker Film was washed away during this flood, including the cages, and a lot of plant damage occurred during this event.  The tomato plants were bent over and had damage at the base of the plant where they could not stand up.  The yields dropped off some, so yields may be a little skewed than normal (lower).  The plants that did not have the Mater Maker Film were not damaged.  The water was able to flow through the cages without damaging these plants.

We also had a drought between the 9th of July and the 1st of August.  Note the line graph where the red line (no Mater Maker Film) exceeds the blue line (Mater Maker Film).  The drought caused the plants with no film to ripen at a quicker pace due to the lack of water.  The Mater Maker Film trapped the soil moisture under the film allowing the tomatoes to stay on the vine longer causing larger tomato sizes (6% heavier).  This was due solely to the 12 foot dimensions locking in the moisture!  Larger tomatoes and longer production!  Wow!

How to Grow Tomatoes and Peppers with the Mater Maker Film

Mater.Maker.PackageInstructions.1.12X12.BC.jpg

These are the instructions that come with each order.  With our years of experience successfully using this specially engineered film you can grow lots and lots of "Maters"!  We do recommend that you thoroughly mulch around each plant because this will be the only locations where weeds and grass can have a chance at stealing moisture and nutrients from your peppers and tomatoes.  Use a good compost and monitor throughout the growing season to make sure it does not blow off or wash away.

One thing we did not have room to write about on the instructions is to really water the ground before you put your Mater Maker Film down or wait for a good rain.  This film is good at trapping water underneath for nearly the entire growing season.  The size hole you cut to place the plants can vary.  I usually cut a hole big enough to use a post hole digger to dig my holes for plant placement.  If you till the ground and the soil is nice and soft, a smaller hole will work.

This film is great for a no till garden.  Our plastic is engineered to absolutely remove all light transmittance through the film.  It is like laying a piece of tin roofing on your grass.  Anywhere you place this film, all of the weeds-no matter how noxious-will die.  Johnson grass, crab grass, pig weed, and other nasty ones - they just don't have a chance!  You can lay it right on top of the grass in your yard, fasten down the edges, plant your plants, and POOF-instant garden.  No reason to buy a tiller, no weeding.  Easy as pie!

Make sure and watch our series of videos on which size film you want.  We frankly give our results around plant yields, disease, and some economics around our film.  Sorry about the confusion around pricing on the videos, we were just giving a preliminary price.  I was unsure, at the time, on the costs of production and marketing.
